Both of these smart helmets served us best while commuting or riding solo. While Sena’s intercom system makes it viable for a group ride, anyone listening to music while riding in a group cannot fully be aware of the rolling situations, and we don’t encourage it. The SafeSound has a wind-resistant microphone located under the front lip of the helmet as well. An emergency text will be sent out to a contact chosen in the Coros app when the helmet detects an impact while in use.

While the Chime is now the most affordable native Control4 door buzzer, there are now similarly-priced alternatives available within the premium smart home ecosystem. I’ve asked Control4 what’s going on here and I’ll update this review as soon as I hear back. However, there is a plan to ditch Intercom Anywhere soon and integrate everything within the Control4 Smart Home OS 3 app. That was supposed to have happened by now though… so there’s obviously a few issues. For example, I’ve set it up that when motion is detected at night time by my Chime the porch light turns on (and likewise I’ve got an automation where the light turns off again when no motion is sensed).

Yet, there is one point of contention for me, and that is the helmet’s visor. The C10′s visor detents are much larger than the CS-15′s, and opening the visor to the first detent – particularly useful when riding through densely populated urban centers – provides a hole wide enough to allow bugs and debris in while riding. This helmet is designed to be the successor to the popular HJC CS-15 in the Asian and European markets, a helmet which I wrote a detailed review on a couple of years ago.

The Shoei RF-SR certainly outclasses the FreedConn BM12 in every way that a helmet fits, feels, and protects. Sure, it’s almost 2lbs lighter, handmade from fiberglass, and uses high quality materials, but it doesnt have the Bluetooth connections and costs more than twice as much. For some, comfort and protection are paramount when selecting a helmet, but if this doesn’t concern you as much, the FreedConn BM12 simply has more features.

It’s also packing a microphone and speaker for two-way audio, a quick-release rechargeable battery pack, and motion sensors. You can tap into the live view at any time and there’s infrared night vision for when it’s dark. When someone rings the bell or the motion sensors pick up action, it triggers an alert. The Ring Video Doorbell 2 has a camera capable of streaming or recording high definition 1080p video, a microphone, a speaker, a removable and rechargeable battery pack, and motion sensors.

It may not have the intercom connectivity built in like the FreedConn BM12, but it is a comfortable, well-known brand which takes pride in safety over gimmicks. Neither helmet is at the top of the line but, for the same price, it leaves questions about how FreedConn can afford to provide the extra features, while still providing the same protection. There are other options for adding a motorcycle Bluetooth headset to an existing helmet that aren’t too expensive, but if an all-in-one system is what you require, It’s hard to beat the FreedConn at this price range. There was one other glaring problem that might be a one-off manufacturing issue. Switching over to the intercom system, the irritating sound didn’t go away, but the distance it would stay connected was impressive. It only disconnected at around 450 meters, compared to the advertised 500 meters, and when coming back into range, it reconnected automatically.

Without it, you can only see video if there’s a motion event or someone rings the doorbell. I’ve tested more than 35 video doorbells, and while there’s no one-size-fits-all — like a smartphone, it’s a personal choice — I have thoughts on which are the best of the best and which work well for specific use cases. All video doorbells should offer a live feed from the camera, but so you can see visitors you missed a cloud or local storage option for video recordings is also important.

As far as selecting a helmet goes, this is clearly a lower-tier helmet, and if you should choose between getting a nice helmet for safety and comfort or getting a helmet to talk to your friends with, we’d suggest the former. The controls are a bit finicky; they might become more obvious if you get used to the device over a longer period of time, but it wasn’t immediately user-friendly.

The Blink Video Doorbell is the best cheap doorbell with a no-subscription option. And while it works as a wired doorbell, it’s also a good option for a battery-powered buzzer, as it can go up to two years on two AAs. I don’t love this doorbell, as video and audio quality are not great, but it’s cheap, it gets the job done, and that battery life is phenomenal. The Nest Doorbell Wired (2nd-gen) is one of only two video doorbells in this list that can record 24/7. Scrolling through a continuous timeline view of everything that’s happened at your front door is super helpful and means you won’t miss anything. This, along with a good price, great video quality, the ability to tell you what and who is at your door, and some free recorded video, make it the best doorbell for most people.

A true wired doorbell, while the Ring Pro 2 is one of the most responsive doorbells I’ve tested, delivering notifications immediately. It also has the best range and connectivity, and built-in, full-color preroll helps ensure you don’t miss any crucial action. The Blink comes in white or black and, because it uses just two AA batteries, isn’t as huge as most battery-powered ChatGPT App doorbells, making it a more discreet option. However, it is a giant pain in the neck to install; make sure to follow the video instructions Blink provides closely to save a lot of frustration.
