Victory Programs

We support each other’s path as well as to share what we have mastered. Some guys come naturally to working with dough, while others are more comfortable with a knife. On my first night of teaching cooking, in the Tharros kitchen, a home for recovering addicts, one of the guys blurted out “Are you gonna be comfortable working with 8 addicts? ”…My quick retort was “Yes, I am very much at home in a kitchen… Teras is located two miles away from Tharros (both Tharros and Teras are in Lexington MA). This less structured residence is designed to support clients when they have 25+ hours of work or other outside structure weekly, which can be developed with assistance from our team, in the first 30 days.

Rebuilding – Mental Health and Recovery

I’m so proud of these guys who are diligently working their recovery. Stepping out of themselves, entering the kitchen and asking “how do I separate an egg? “, “How do I flip the scallopini without burning myself? “ Their courage brings me back each week; their progress is inspiring. Asking vulnerable questions in the kitchen encourages them to do the same when they step out into the world. When they get the hang of a skill, they can then turn to a buddy who needs assistance.

They continue to meet with their case manager weekly and participate in community support activities. Teras, also located in Lexington MA, offers a less structured, but still supportive model of high standards sober living. When teaching cooking with “my guys”, I am not a professional cook; I am a human being, cooking. Just because we may dump too much cinnamon in an apple turnovers doesn’t mean we aren’t “good enough”; we just let it go and move forward. I want them to feel at ease when trying something new.

Victory Programs

You are more likely to maintain long-term sobriety by entering and committing to a structured transitional living environment, like Victory Programs. That’s why we encourage our clients to consider staying 6 months to one year. When you arrive at the house, you will undergo an initial discussion and orientation with the Program Director, including a dialogue on the past events that led you here. Together, we will start discussing what you want to achieve by engaging the support at Tharros. There are general rules of the house that everyone is required to follow. However, experience has shown us, not every person with an addiction or alcoholism is the same.

  1. We know that you can have more fun and a much better life in sobriety; we also know that you’re having a hard time believing that statement right now.
  2. We have experience helping clients achieve success and every decision we’ve made in the development and management of Victory Programs centers around your success.Tharros offers more than a traditional sober living.

  5. The road to recovery from alcoholism and addiction requires significant emotional, behavioral, and intellectual changes.

A study of 300 individuals whom resided in Sober Living Homes (SLH) was published in 2010 by a division of the NIH (National Institute of Health) (Douglas L. Polcin, 2010). That study found that freestanding SLH’s offer enough structure, with no formal treatment, creating an optimal environment for residents ready for the next step. SLH’s provide an environment for individuals capable of handling a fair amount of autonomy and wish to take personal responsibility for their recovery. If you have many outside commitments, or are ready to return to work, Teras can be a good entry point directly from treatment. For others, after 1-6 months at Tharros, clients may choose to transition to Teras. Love the impact you are making and the relationships you are building with just time, a kitchen and acceptance.

Why Victory Programs?

At Victory Programs, we want to help you achieve your life goals and long-term sobriety with the tools and foundation you’ve already acquired. Leaving a residential, inpatient, or outpatient treatment environment is often more challenging than expected. You’ve changed, but the people, places, and things around you haven’t. Some of the same triggers you had before can be reactivated and we recognize how frustrating and upsetting that can be. At Teras, we offer structured sober living with flexible structure to meet the needs of those returning to family, work, school, or other commitments.

I don’t want them to be tense with feelings of pressure to do it the “right” way or feel shame if they do it “wrong”. I want to leave room for creativity and mistakes and self Victory Programs acceptance because these are all part of life. With no judgement we can feel safe to explore and emerge; we get a chance to see ourselves in a new light. There is a saying that “all we need to know we learned in kindergarten”. In the Tharros kitchen with “my guys” I get to witness what is possible. I am honored to be able to observe their personal development.
